As with Sims 2, you can always choose to turn off aging in Sims 3 (you can do this in the Options Menu). I believe though it’s so much more interesting to see your Sims passing through the various life stages …and take your chances with whatever this means.
What you will find out to be different is that you have the power to trigger the timing your child will become a teen and decide for yourself when your Sims are ready to go to the next stage. All you must do is purchase a birthday cake and throw a nice party and there it goes! Your child is now a teen!
Sometimes, keeping the childhood stage just a bit longer can be extremely helpful, especially if your child has difficulties adjusting and growing up. You can always try to improve certain things and have the chance to choose the traits of your growing child, rather than condemn it to live with some random, penalizing traits. On the other hand, penalizing traits might be exactly what you want (evil thoughts, I know).
So, here below the seven life stages you can have in Sims 3:
- Baby: Some say that this time flies fast, others say it takes forever. I guess it’s all about what you want and how you handle things in your life. Anyway, babies need your constant attention, from the time they wake up till the time they fall asleep. Make sure you feed them, change them, and nourish them properly or they will be taken away.
- Toddler: While they still require a lot of attention from your side, other than simply waiting for their food to be served and the diapers to be changed, at this stage your Lilliputians Sims can also start learning things and get trained to do certain things. To name one, potty training…!
- Child: Things are getting a bit better now. At least they can have a snack on their own if needed and realize they must bath… Other than that, children will keep on learning new skills, improving existing ones and do their homework to achieve high scores at school. Helping them not only makes it easier for them but is a terrific way to bond. Make sure to prepare them nicely for the challenges yet to come.
- Teen: Like any other teenager, young Sims are exploring new horizons and making their way towards their independence. They will get part time jobs to earn some Simoleons, fall in love and …run away if they feel you are pushing them too hard. So, make sure to keep the balance.
- Young Adult: Seeing your little Sims becoming a grown man or woman makes you want to cry, doesn’t it? It’s time to learn to be apart. If you have raised them wisely, these Sims will be ready by now to conquer the world, study and / or get successful at their chosen career. They will fall in love, move in with their loved one and move on with their lives.
- Adult Sims: This is one of the most important life stages; together with young adult stage may I add. Make sure to have your Sims live their lives to their full potential, whatever this might be. Don’t look back, don’t look ahead. This is the time to make your dreams come true and fulfil your destiny, whether this means becoming a successful careerist or a loving family chief.
- Elder: Whether it was a good or bad life now is the time to relax, look back and recall all the memories you have been gathering through your life. Now that you can retire from work and have more free time, why not enjoy all these things you have been postponing? Take a long trip, learn new hobbies, spend more time with the family and help the grandchildren to grow up!
