As your Sims grow and change life stage, becoming young adults, they gain traits. Up to five traits in total can be assigned to your Sims, this leading to your Sims developing different wishes and behavior. Depending on how successful they were during the previous life stage you may be able to choose the traits you want, while being not-so-successful or having miserable experiences will lead the game to assign randomly some traits... most probably negative ones.
So if you wish to pick up the traits for your Sims, for good or for bad, make sure you keep them happy and successful as the time for the age transition approaches.

- Perfectionists tend to perform the same task much better than other Sims, though it will probably take them a bit longer to complete it.
- A Virtuoso will learn quicker to play the guitar and make more money when playing for tips as Sims love their playing.
- Loner and Outdoors are probable two good traits to assign to a professional fisherman; will love every minute spent outdoors and won't mind for not socializing so much while fishing!
